Music mogul L.A. Reid, the man behind Usher and Justin Bieber, is in final negotiations to land the first judging panel spot on Simon Cowell's new U.S. version of his hit talent show "The X Factor."
The record executive and producer will be among the experts on the program, according to EW.com.
A source says, "L.A. wants to do it. He has his sights set on a seat on that panel, and apparently Simon would like it to happen."
Billboard.com reports Reid will leave his job as chairman of Island Def Jam to become a judge on the show.
Cowell is also considering judging roles for Mariah Carey, Nicole Scherzinger and George Michael.
The show premieres later this year and auditions get underway in Los Angeles at the end of March.
