Serena WilliamsTennis ace Serena Williams has assured her fans she's recovering well following emergency treatment to treat a blood clot in her lungs.

The sports star sought treatment at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Monday for a hematoma, a pooling of blood caused by a hemorrhage.

It came just a week after Williams was diagnosed with a blood clot in her lungs during treatment of an ongoing foot injury in New York.

She has now spoken out about the medical drama, telling fans she's "doing better" - but admits her health scares have caused her great concern.

Williams tells People.com, "Thank you everyone for all of your prayers, concerns, and support. This has been extremely hard, scary, and disappointing. I am doing better, I'm at home now and working with my doctors to keep everything under control.

"I know I will be okay, but am praying and hoping this will all be behind me soon. While I can't make any promises now on my return (to tennis), I hope to be back by early summer. That said, my main goal is to make sure I get there safely."

The 29 year old was forced to take a hiatus from tennis last summer after undergoing surgery on her foot.
