Neil Patrick HarrisNeil Patrick Harris has conceded he "feels bad" after launching a scathing attack on veteran actor Eric Braeden for pulling out of a planned appearance on How I Met Your Mother.

The Young And The Restless star joined the cast of the hit show for a one-off episode in 2008 and was due to reprise his role in an upcoming installment, but scrapped plans at the last minute.

Harris went online on Friday to criticize Braeden's decision to drop out, writing in a post on, "Eric Braeden is a D-bag. The actor... agreed to a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn't 'substantial' enough...

"We've recast with Ray Wise, a fantastic actor who makes any part 'substantial'. Super excited to welcome him to the family!"

The rant prompted Braeden to speak out, insisting he had to scrap the filming commitment due to his busy schedule, but he will "forgive" Harris for his remarks.

A statement to, reads: "My first time on (How I Met Your Mother) I enjoyed working with the writers, directors, and crew enormously. However, I did not have the pleasure of meeting most of the cast, including this fellow who put his foot in his mouth by saying what he did. It's Christmas time and I forgive him for his transgression... I have been overworked at Y&R (The Young and the Restless)... I was (also) not aware of what they wanted me to do until the day before."

Harris has now backtracked on his comments, writing on, "Now I feel bad for the D-bag comment. Don't know the guy personally. I'm just fiercely protective of our show."
