Christina Aguilera Confirms Her 'Special' Romance With Set Assistant
Pop superstar Christina Aguilera has opened up about the "special" new man in her life, insisting she is happy and having fun for the first time "in a really long time."
The Dirrty singer has been linked to Matt Rutler, a set assistant from Burlesque, since filing for divorce from husband Jordan Bratman in October. The new couple went public with its romance last month when it was snapped enjoying several nights out together, and Aguilera is even rumored to have met his family over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The hit-maker admits she grew close to Rutler while working on the movie musical and fell for his charms easily once she moved to formally end her marriage, although she's taking the relationship step by step.
Confirming the romance to People magazine, she says, "Matthew is a special person. We had a really strong friendship on the movie. He's the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it's daylight. Once I filed for divorce, we started dating. I'm not trying to jump into anything. I just left a five-year marriage. I'm taking it slow and trying to be happy."
However, Aguilera is hesitant to admit she's in love: "There's a love there, yes. I'm having fun, I'm dating and it's something I haven't had in a really long time."
And she's refusing to let her one bad experience with marriage taint her hopes for future happiness. Asked whether she still believes in love and marriage, she replies, "Wholeheartedly. I know one day I'll be able to feel that again for someone. That idea will never die."
