Wesley Snipes Asks For A Bail Extension
Wesley Snipes is hoping to stay out of jail by asking for a bail extension as his lawyers attempt to lodge another appeal against his conviction.
The Blade star has spent two years fighting a guilty verdict on tax evasion charges, and last week he was ordered to turn himself over to authorities to begin serving his three-year sentence after losing a previous appeal and a battle for a retrial.
Snipes is currently still a free man as his lawyer claims no date has been set for the star's surrender, and his legal team is hoping to keep the actor out of jail for the foreseeable future by asking a judge in Florida to extend his bail while they prepare to take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. The request was filed on Tuesday, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
A statement from Snipes' lawyer Daniel Meachum reveals the legal team is "determined to exhaust all plausible avenues in this matter."
