Wyclef Jean has been hospitalized after suffering from "stress and fatigue," according to his representative.
The 40-year-old hip-hop star was admitted to an undisclosed hospital last weekend, just days after officially withdrawing his bid to become president of his native Haiti. Jean was ruled out of the race in August after lawmakers stated he was not eligible for the November election because he did not meet residency requirements.
The Gone Till November hit-maker had initially vowed to appeal the decision through Haiti's courts, but his spokeswoman Marian Salzman admits the failed campaign has taken a physical toll on the star and he is now seeking medical treatment.
Salzman revealed on Monday Jean is "suffering from stress and fatigue based on the grueling eight weeks he's had." She tells the Associated Press he "plans to take it easy" and will be released from hospital later this week.
