Singer Fantasia Barrino has been admitted to a North Carolina hospital after suffering a drug overdose.

The former "American Idol" star checked into Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville on Monday at approximately 8:55 p.m. local time and was treated for a "medication overdose."

Barrino's rep has confirmed the hospitalization to TMZ.com, while reports suggest her condition was not life-threatening.

The news comes one day after the R&B singer found herself entangled in divorce proceedings of North Carolina couple Antwuan Cook and his estranged wife Paula, who alleged Barrino had an affair with Cook after meeting him in August 2009.

Barrino has denied the accusations.
