Actor Gary Coleman authorized his ex-wife Shannon Price to make medical decisions on his behalf prior to his death last week, according to Utah hospital officials.
Executives at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center were faced with controversy this week when it was revealed that Price, who claimed she was Coleman's wife - and gave doctors permission to turn off his life support machine, had actually divorced the star in 2008.
Hospital bosses subsequently launched an investigation into the scandal but they have now ruled Price was within her rights - because Coleman had previously signed an Advanced Health Care Directive.
A statement released by health center officials on Thursday suggests Coleman "granted Shannon Price permission to make medical decisions on his behalf if he was unable to do so."
It is unclear when Coleman signed the legal papers, but the motion remained in effect at the time of his death because he had not amended it.
