MercyMichelle Trachtenberg and James Van Der Beek are the latest TV stars looking for work - their medical drama "Mercy" has been canceled after its first season.

Trachtenberg stars as a nurse in the hospital series, featuring Van Der Beek in a recurring role as a womanizing doctor.

But chiefs at NBC have declined to commission a second series of the show, which launched last September.

The news comes after the recent cancellation of a number of high-profile TV shows, including Hayden Panettiere and Ali Larter's hit NBC series "Heroes" and long-running cop drama "Law & Order."

And network executives at ABC have followed suit with their own TV cull, axing Zach Braff's medical comedy "Scrubs," sci-fi drama "Flashforward" and sitcom "Better Off Ted" in recent weeks.
