Melanie Griffith: 'I Feel Free After Kicking Pills'
Melanie Griffith feels "free" after kicking her drug habit - comparing her new-found sobriety to "getting out of prison."
The Working Girl star struggled with alcohol and substance abuse for many years before kicking her addictions - but a skiing accident in 2007 left her hooked on prescription painkillers. She was admitted to a rehab facility last year, and now insists she is clean. And Griffith is convinced she has finally won her battle to sober up.
She tells Spain's Hola! magazine, "I am an alcoholic and an addict and all my life I have fought against this and I've done it well. Now I feel free. I don't drink. I don't take pills - nothing. And it's fantastic, like getting out of prison."
Griffith's actor husband Antonio Banderas recently praised his wife for her courage in her drug battle, hailing her as a "very cheerful and strong woman."
