Hilary Duff showed up at the Good Housekeeping "Shine On" event in New York City yesterday wearing a dress with some really distracting shoulder jewelry.

The actress is following in the footsteps of "Beverly Hills 90210" alums Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling and penning a young adult novel. "Elixir" is scheduled to be published in October and will feature the harrowing adventures of international photojournalist Clea Raymond.

Hilary got engaged in February to her hockey star boyfriend of two years, Mike Comrie. Mike reportedly popped the question while the two were vacationing in Maui.
