Jessica Simpson's rumored love interest Billy Corgan has taken aim at her ex John Mayer over remarks he made about the pop star's sexual prowess in a racy Playboy magazine article.

Mayer spoke candidly his sex life with Simpson, comparing her to "sexual napalm" - and has since reached out to apologize to her after the comments hit the headlines.

Simpson has refused Mayer's personal apology, recently admitting she is "disappointed by the article".

And now The Smashing Pumpkins frontman has leaped to her defense, insisting Mayer should have kept his mouth shut.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I think for any person, who has celebrity, to sort of drop rocks at somebody else's feet like that, there's things you should really just keep your mouths shut on. There's things that should just be left alone."

Corgan also cautions Mayer about speaking to the media so candidly, insisting it could destroy his career.

As if to prove the point, the rocker refused to confirm or deny reports he's dating Simpson in the same interview.

Instead he said, "If people knew her like I knew her, they would love her like I do" - a remark Simpson has already responded to, stating. "I can't find good enough words to speak about Billy."
