Gabourey Sidibe Snubs Oprah's Oscar Offer
Precious star Gabourey Sidibe turned down the chance to be Oprah Winfrey's date at Sunday's Academy Awards - because she is so in awe of the TV titan.
The Hollywood newcomer is up for the Best Actress Oscar at the upcoming ceremony, and has asked her mom to accompany her on the red carpet. Sidibe had another woman vying to take her to the bash - America's biggest talk show host.
However, the actress insists she had to snub Winfrey's offer, because she gets too starstruck when she meets her.
She tells People.com, "Oprah called me and was like, 'Hey girl, do you want to ride together?' I was like, 'I got it Oprah, calm down. I don't want to show up with you. People will think we're too cool.'"
"She's the only person that I'm continually starstruck by. When I meet people I get used to them very quickly because everyone seems like a friend because I watch them on TV. But Oprah is the only one I can't get used to."
