Lil Wayne Performs With Jay-Z Before Prison Stint
Jail-bound rapper Lil Wayne made the most of his last night of freedom on Tuesday - he thrilled fans with a surprise performance at Jay-Z's concert in New York's Madison Square Garden.
The Lollipop hit-maker was due to be sentenced to prison time on Tuesday but a basement fire at New York's Manhattan Criminal Court forced officials to shut down the building and delay the hearing. Wayne was determined to enjoy the extra time he was granted, making a special appearance as Jay-Z brought his Blueprint 3 tour to his hometown, reports MTV.com.
The Big Pimpin' star was performing with rapper Nicki Minaj when he introduced Wayne to perform his track I'm Goin' In, prompting rapturous cheers from the crowd. Hip-hop stars Drake and Young Jeezy then joined them onstage, before Jay-Z allowed Wayne the spotlight for a mini-set, which featured another appearance from R&B singer Akon.
Wayne was initially expected to be sentenced for a weapons possession charge last month but he was granted a postponement to have dental surgery.
He is due back in court to hear his punishment on Wednesday.
