John Mayer has become the latest celebrity to dig deep for the survivors of the Haiti earthquake - the rocker has donated $500,000 to the relief effort.

Mayer has handed over the cash to the American Red Cross.

The generous star has also given charity bosses permission to use "The Heart of Life" - the song he performed on CNN TV special "Haiti: How You Can Help" - in a new public service announcement.

Mayer joins the likes of George Clooney, Gisele Bundchen, Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who have all given huge cash sums to the relief effort.
