Mackenzie Phillips Backtracks On 'Consensual' Incest CommentsActress Mackenzie Phillips has retracted comments over her sexual relationship with her father John Phillips - insisting incest can never be "consensual". Phillips shocked Hollywood last year after revealing in her memoirs that she had a decade-long sexual affair with her Mamas & the Papas star dad, which started after he raped her on the night of her wedding to Jeff Sessler.

She told TV titan Oprah Winfrey that although the warped relationship began with rape, she later consented to having sex with her late father.

However, after a year of meeting with fellow victims of incest since her book High On Arrival was published, Phillips has changed her view on the nature of their relationship.

In an interview with talk show host Joy Behar, she explained, "I'd like to reframe my word, 'consensual'. As I was writing the book, I thought, this word, it kept sitting wrong with me, but I used it for lack of a better word, and since then I've been schooled by thousands of incest survivors all across the world that there really is no such thing as consensual incest due to the inherent power a parent has over a child... So, I wouldn't necessarily call it a consensual relationship at this time."
