Charlie Sheen's estranged wife Brooke Mueller was admitted to a California hospital on Wednesday, suffering a fever and suspected pneumonia - according to online reports.

Mueller checked herself into a medical center in Sherman Oaks after her temperature soared to a dangerous 105 degrees Fahrenheit, TMZ.com reports. Shortly after being admitted Sheen paid his spouse a visit, despite a restraining order banning him from having any direct contact with her.

The medical emergency comes just two days before the couple is due in court to dispute the order. Their bust-up stems from Sheen's arrest on Christmas morning after a nasty dispute with Mueller in Aspen, Colorado.

He faces charges for second-degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief for the incident, after allegedly threatening Mueller with a knife.

The Two and A Half Men actor faces up to eight years for the menacing charge, the most serious of the three, in addition to a fine of between $2,000 and $500,000.
