Britney SpearsBritney Spears missed a Los Angeles court date for a conservatorship hearing on Friday due to a "misunderstanding."

The pop star's aides asked Commissioner Reva Goetz to postpone the case, fearing the pop star would be besieged by the paparazzi after word leaked about the time of her court date - and they thought the delay had been agreed.

But Goetz tells TMZ.com that that wasn't the case and now Spears must show up in court on January 22.

The commissioner says, "The court was supposed to meet with Ms. Spears... and there was a misunderstanding. I'm going to continue the matter until next Friday at 1:30 and she will be here."
