Canadian actress Carly Pope was admitted to a hospital in Vancouver on Tuesday after a thief hijacked her car and smashed it into a building.

The TV star, who found fame on high school drama Popular and has appeared in 24, was a passenger in a BMW driven by her actor brother Kris when an unknown man leaped onto the hood of the car.

According to TMZ.com, Pope's sibling climbed out of the car to confront the male but he managed to jump into the vacant driver's seat and attempted to speed off - with the actress still in the car.

Kris Pope struggled with the thief and tried to pull him out of the car, prompting the man to reverse and crash into three other vehicles before smashing into a building.

The siblings were taken to hospital to seek medical care for injuries, along with a pedestrian and the suspect, who was arrested at the scene.

The extent of the actress' injuries were unknown as WENN went to press, but Kris was released later that night.
