Steven Tyler Enters Rehab Again
The superstar rocker has battled a reliance on prescription drugs following years of injuries sustained on stage, and has entered his second rehabilitation plan in as many years. In a statement confirming the news, Tyler thanks his family and his Aerosmith band mates for their support - banishing reports he quit the group earlier this year.
In the statement, Tyler says, "With the help of my family and team of medical professionals, I am taking responsibility for the management of my pain and am eager to be back on the stage and in the recording studio with my band mates Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford. I love Aerosmith; I love performing as the lead singer in Aerosmith. I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of."
The rockers scrapped the remaining dates of their North American tour after the frontman broke his shoulder in August following a fall from the stage at a gig in South Dakota. Following admissions from Perry that the group had been unable to contact Tyler, and the fact he dumped the band's long term management team, it was believed Tyler had walked away from the band for good. And his band mates had even pondered going back on tour and recording their next album with a new singer.
Tyler's previous rehab stint came in 2008, when he entered a program to help deal with an addiction to painkillers following an operation on his feet.
And he can count on the support of his actress daughter Liv Tyler, who says, "My family and I are in complete support of my dad's decision to seek treatment. He is a courageous man. We love him and are so proud that he is getting help to balance his pain management, not just for himself but for his family, friends and fans."
