Patrick Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi has established a cancer research fund in the late actor's name.

The Ghost star underwent treatment for pancreatic cancer at California's Stanford University but died in September, less than two years after doctors discovered he was suffering from the deadly illness.

Niemi has now shown her thanks to medics at the prestigious university by setting up the Patrick Swayze Pancreas Cancer Research Fund.

She says, "Stanford University is coalescing existing research activities on pancreas cancer to form a Pancreas Cancer Center. Our wonderful Dr. George Fisher (who treated Patrick), is involved with all this and setting up this fund in Patrick's name."
