author Stephenie Meyer
has become the latest celebrity to be targeted by an online death hoax.
Internet pranksters alleged Meyer, who shot to fame after publishing her vampire romance series, had been found dead at her home in Utah on Tuesday and the rumor picked up speed as it circulated on Twitter
However, the reports are untrue, according to a statement released on her official website.
Meyer's rep writes: "I just received a call from Stephenie and she wanted me to let everyone know that, contrary to some rumors that have recently started circulating, she is alive and well."
The report is the latest in a series of online hoaxes - Zach Braff
, George Clooney
and Jeff Goldblum
have all been victims of false death reports this year.
