Former "The Simple Life" reality star Nicole Richie will star in a single-camera half-hour sitcom in development at ABC, according to Variety.com.

Richie had the initial idea for the show. She will play a professional woman with complicated family relationships and struggling to figure out what role she'll take as her life and her family evolve.

Richie has guest starred in shows such as "Chuck," "8 Simple Rules," "American Dreams" and "Eve." She made her big break with BFF Paris Hilton in "The Simple Life."

Richie just gave birth to her second child, son Sparrow with boyfriend Joel Madden. She is working on her second novel, as well as the debut of her clothing collection and shoe line.
