Last night's episode of The Vampire Diaries could not have had a more fitting title, because it was all about turns in the storylines and the characters' lives. After Damon was unable to release Katherine, Stefan and Damon had been set to leave Mystic Falls. The return of Logan as a new vampire canceled their plans. Damon and Stefan quickly realized that neither of them had turned Logan, which raised the real question of who the other additional vampire was.

Logan managed to kidnap Caroline but Damon and Stefan stepped in and saved her. It was nice to see that Damon and Stefan could continue their pattern of working together to protect themselves from other vamps. It turned out that Logan had information about how to release Katherine, but he ended up getting staked by new teacher Alaric. All the audience knows about Alaric is that his wife died mysteriously; making it more than likely he's on a grief-fueled, vampire hunting revenge kick.

Elena and Stefan had sex after she admitted that she loved him. Their happiness ended when Elena found that old picture of Katherine and left. Stefan realized she'd seen the picture but Elena was already on the road. Elena was driving home when she hit someone on the way home and flipped her car. Elena watched as the person fixed their broken limbs and started towards her car while she was stuck inside it.

The episode might have quickly disposed of Logan, but he only appeared to be a setup for things to come in the rest of the season. There's a new vampire and a new vampire hunter for Stefan and Damon to deal with. Stefan will also have to answer Elena's assumed questions about Katherine after seeing the picture, just as soon as she gets saved from whatever the thing was that made her crash the car.
