Talk show host David Letterman has slammed reports his wife threw him out of the family home following his live TV admission of extra-marital affairs.

In October, the Late Show legend shocked America by revealing he had been targeted in an extortion plot, alleging he had been asked for $2 million to keep his secret affairs with employees out of the public domain.

The disgraced host went on to apologize to his wife Regina Lasko, admitting his longtime partner had been "horribly hurt" by his behavior.

Reports of a split were quick to surface, with the National Enquirer claiming on Sunday that Lasko had asked Letterman to leave their home in North Salem, New York after struggling to forgive his infidelity.

However a spokesperson for the TV host insists the story is false, saying, "The National Enquirer has it wrong."
