Dexter'Dexter' has reached new heights this season as its sought to delve beyond its gimmicky premise and use it to make a thematic statement about self and self-denial and has hit every note soundly thus far, but last night it was nice to see it take a break from the existentialism and move into the world of pulse-scintillating thriller.

This throwback to 70s cop drama started when last week's episode left off - the murder of Agent Lundy and the gunshot wounding of Debra. This unleashed a harried search for the doers of the dastardly deed.

The regular homicide cops assumed it was The Vacation Murderers, and in a fit of press mastery, a syphilitic headline placed by Angel brought them out of hiding, finding the lady killing her man and ultimately riding the Taser lightning of Quinn.

Dexter, however had different ideas regarding the identity of his sister's near-slayer. Thinking Trinity was the perpetrator of this near murder. This set off a mad rush through records and recordings from Lundy, until Dexter flew through a blinding office building chase that saw Trinity bludgeoning his third victim.

Dexter was deadest on tracking him down, and did - to his home. Where Trinity has a wife and two children. Where he lives the same life Dexter and Harry think is impossible to lead while fostering a carnival of killing.

And yet, even after its adrenaline-fueled action film of an episode, 'Dexter' returns to the central idea of its season - how much of ourselves do we leave outside of our interactions with others? How little do we actually allow ourselves to be seen by those who are supposed to the closest to us?

As we get to know Trinity further over the next episodes, we may get that answer.
