Michael Jackson's forthcoming tour documentary This Is It is turning into one of the hottest tickets of the year - over 1,600 screenings have sold out around the world, two weeks ahead of its release.

The movie is a collection of rehearsal footage from the 50 London shows Jackson was scheduled to perform from July, less than a month after his untimely death. The film is set to open on October 28th, with audiences in cities including Los Angeles, London, New York and Berlin, Germany able to see the film at the same time.

Online ticket retailer Fandango.com reports the show has sold more than 1,000 show times in the U.S. on its site alone. A Sony film executive says, "The presales activity all over the world has been nothing short of extraordinary."

Jackson died on June 25th after suffering a cardiac arrest.
