Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce, bidding to end her three-year marriage to pop punk Deryck Whibley. The singer has cited "irreconcilable differences" for the reason behind her split.

In the documents, Lavigne reveals the couple separated on September 4.

Confirming the split on her MySpace.com blog, the "Complicated" singer wrote, "I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know, and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note."
