Gossip GirlGossip Girl went to the movies this week. And while I'll give our favorite Upper East Siders two thumbs up for their "star-studded" attempt and their amusing self-referential nature, the rest of the episode made me question whether Gossip Girl really can survive in these post-college years.

The episode began by reminding the viewers that not everyone has left the private, prep-school life. Jenny (Taylor Momsen) and Eric (Connor Paolo) headed back to high school. Jenny had a surprise waiting for her, though. She found her very own little minions dressed in semi-spin-off punk-rock chic and eyes decorated like raccoons. At least I can't blame the show for making fun of those bad make-up and wardrobe choices. However, the storyline just made me sad. Since Jenny did not want to rule Constance the same way Blair (Leighton Meester) had, she decided to tell everyone they were free from this fictitious social hierarchy. But, since it's been proven for three seasons now that the minions have no other purpose but to stand there and act like sheep, Blair had to be called to the rescue.

Blair, painfully distraught by the fact that she can't "rule" NYU, decided to go back to Constance and take matters into her own hands. She threw a ridiculous sleep-over for the teeny-boppers. Even Dorota (Zuzanna Szadkowski) knew Blair was being a little childish. Only her beloved Chuck (Ed Westwick) could rein her in. Chuck staged a Gossip Girl intervention by taking Jenny to a fancy Olivia Burke (Hilary Duff) movie premiere. The news spread quickly through the text-message airwaves. Blair came to stop Chuck and he informed her that she was insulting him by not thinking more of herself. To quote him, "I'm Chuck Bass and you got me to tell you that I love you." Wow, that's so romantic. It really is unfortunate how terrible these two are to one another, but I can't deny that it is one of the most entertaining parts of the show these days.

But, let me not blow over Hilary Duff's debut appearance on "Gossip Girl." She played the role of a famous actress, well known for teenage vampire love story films, who just wanted to go to college. Think Kristen Stewart crossed with the Olsen twins. Again, I'll give credit to the making fun of teen vampires. Although, I do find it ironic that the show doing the best on the CW is about teen vampires, and this being a show on the same network shouldn't really be making fun of what's keeping the CW afloat. But, I digress; anything that makes fun of Twilight in any way, shape or form is alright by me.

So, Olivia has come to NYU looking for a fresh start. She has moved in with her new roomie, Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), and even met a cute boy named Dan (Penn Badgley). How convenient was that? Dan, being the brooding writer that he is, doesn't even know who Olivia Burke is or what she looks like. Nate (Chace Crawford) finds this to be amusing and encourages Dan to ask this "new" girl out on a date. Eventually though, Olivia has to blow him off for her "work." Can I please interject that I am concerned about Nate's presence on the show lately. I don't know if he made Josh Schwartz angry or not, but I feel like he's getting the George O'Malley treatment and the next thing you know he'll be thrown under a bus.

So, Hilary Duff, despite her vampire roles, has a new movie coming out with none other than a rising star named Ursula, played by the over-acting Tyra Banks. Since no episode would be complete without a big to-do, all the central cast members (except Nate) are invited to the movie premiere. Of course, drama ensues, as it usually does. Dan discovered the true identity of his mysterious crush after Vanessa invited him to the premiere. He pretends like he didn't want to date anyone in the spotlight, but we all knew where this love story was going since we saw the paparazzi photos earlier this year about Hilary Duff's guest appearance on the show.

Chuck and Blair, as previously mentioned, figured out their dilemma, which left Jenny back to rule Constance. No surprise there, Jenny accepted her charge as Queen Bee.

So, that only leaves Serena (Blake Lively) and Tyra Banks. Tyra played a crazy woman (such a stretch…) who discovered that her big scene in the movie got cut by the producers. Serena, trying to prove to her recently returned mother (Kelly Rutherford) that she can hold down a job and not need to go to Brown, was brought on as Tyra, I mean Ursula's, publicist. Serena had to help Ursula through some rough moments. To quote her, "No one supports me; everyone wants to see me fail." I think Serena had more work than she could handle given the reality of Tyra's character. But, even though Serena was briefly fired as a pointless plot device, Ursula convinced the publicity firm that they needed Serena. I think I liked it better when Serena was going a little crazy, but when Tyra's around I guess there's not enough room for two crazies on set.
