MediumI wonder sometimes if NBC regrets canceling "Medium" now that it is thriving on CBS. Two episodes in and it gets decent ratings - remarkable for a Friday night - and plenty of attention from the new station. NBC wasn't one for marketing this interesting family drama, and perhaps it wasn't one of their big name shows so it never mattered that much, but CBS is proving it knows how the handle the fanbase and the show. It's great to see "Medium" get its due and stay as good as it has been for years. How often does a switch of networks only seem to solidify its popularity? This might've been the best move for the show!

The Dubois family was in for some serious trouble in last week's episode, and things got very personal. Allison voice overs at first that parents never know what turns their precious children into sociopaths, and sometimes it comes out of no where. The first vision of the night is sincerely creepy as Joe comes home to find Ariel covered in blood with an axe. Freaaaky. The family chats and argues over breakfast the next morning, and Ariel asks if she can go to a scavenger hunt with some older boys. Neither parents like this, but they feel guilty since Ariel was such a trooper during her mother's illness.

Allison walks into the police office and it's turned into a strip joint. Ha! That was a great visual moment on the show. Devalos sets up the case of the week when his maid's daughter went missing, and he wants Allison to help him figure out what happened. The daughter, Elena, was the stripper in Allison's vision. Meanwhile Ariel starts to act very weird, forgetting where their house is and who Bridget is. When Allison tells her she can't go to the scavenger hunt, she doesn't even care, and asks for money instead. That night Allison dreams Elena threatens the man who was having an affair with her, and he shoots her dead. They find the body.

It becomes increasingly obvious to the audience (although not to Allison yet) that Ariel is not who she seems to be. It is not hard to jump to the theory dead stripper girl is possessing her. She goes out to the scavenger hunt despite everything and gets grounded, but then Allison dreams that she went to the strip joint instead. She bought a gun from the owner and admits her name is Elena. So now she has caught up to the rest of us, and freaks out. Understandably, since Elena keeps insisting she is Ariel and plays the victim here. Joe takes fake Ariel's side, which is hilarious since he knows his wife better than that. Plus Ariel's a curious girl who knows all about psychic abilities, if she was truly herself she probably would talk to her mom about the visions and try to help. Silly Joe.

Eventually Allison does break through to Elena-Ariel, but not after she runs off to a friend's house that turns out to be the place the murderer lives. Elena-Ariel finally lets it out that she is fake, but plans to kill her former lover anyway, to bring 'justice' onto him. Allison has to make a desperate move by arresting and framing her own daughter for the murder of the real Elena, that way hoping to get Elena out of her body. It doesn't work at first, Elena just gets more furious, but after Allison appeals to her as a mother and hugs her, the ghost gives it up and moves on. The murderer is caught, and everyone is happy. Except for Elena. And her poor mother. And the murderer's family. Sucks to be all of them.

They kept this episode going until the very last minute, so it almost felt like it was about to be a two-parter. The tension and the drama was very absorbing, and it's always good to be reminded of how strong the Dubois family is.

"Medium" is on CBS Friday nights at 9 PM EST.
