'Project Runway' Episode 7: The Designers Go Blue!

Project RunwayLast night on "Project Runway," resident hottie Logan moved into Ra'Mon's old room with Epperson, Christopher, and Nicolas. Two of those men were really, really happy about that.

The Wheel of Pimpage landed on Macy's this week, so EVP of Corporate Marketing, Martine Reardon, showed up to guest judge and deliver the challenge. It was a one-day (collective groan), TEAM (collective whine/groan/eye roll combo) challenge in which each team had to create two looks that would fit with the exclusive Macy's line, I.N.C. And to match everyone's mood over being issued another dreaded team project, all of the designs had to be blue.

I assumed that Carol Hannah would immediately try to snag Logan as her partner, but the team-picking was to be a little more structured than that. Each designer got to sketch out design ideas and pitch them to Reardon, who then picked the designers she liked best as team leaders. Those leaders were Irina, Althea, Carol Hannah, Christopher, and Louise. Since Althea got to pick first, of course she picked Logan, all while giggling, playing with her hair, and trying not to look directly at him. Louise chose Nicolas - willingly, if you can believe that - and then Christopher picked Epperson. Irina couldn't decide between Gordana and Shirin, so she let them choose their own fates. Gordana went with Irina, leaving Shirin with Carol Hannah.

During the group trip to Mood, Louise nearly lost her fabric money. Tim Gunn seemed very annoyed by this "'Project Runway' first." After retracing her steps through the store, she found the envelope that she had absentmindedly set down on one of the tables. Lucky her. It's a good thing that mean old Mr. Potter wasn't hanging around, or he totally would have taken it.

Back at the workroom, Nicolas was not happy on Team Louise, and not just because she insisted on making annoying bird noises. She wanted to put ruffles on everything, and Nicolas hates ruffles. I mean, he REALLY hates them. Just ask him. He'll tell you how much in just under 3,000 words. Of course, since Nicolas had immunity this week, he didn't really care what happened, so he wandered off to badmouth Louise to Althea, who stopped drooling over Logan just long enough to nod and smirk supportively.

While everyone else complained about having to work in teams, Christopher was very open to collaboration, and got along famously with Epperson, who was happy to not be a team leader. Hmm, maybe Qristyl really WAS the difficult one in the early-season Qristyl/Epperson pairing.

Tim Gunn stopped by and revealed a repressed loathing of leggings while visiting Carol Hannah and Shirin. (Jeez, doesn't the guy realize how comfortable (and versatile) they are?) Although Tim seemed to like Team C.H.'s designs (despite the leggings), Irina took time out from disagreeing with Gordana to tell the camera that she thought they looked like they belonged in a discount store. And Irina looks like she belongs at the jerk store! They called 'cause they're running out of her! But not to worry, Nicolas is their #1 seller! (End of pointless "Seinfeld" references in 3…2…1. Giddyup!)

At the fashion show, Michael Kors made his triumphant return, although no explanation was offered as to his whereabouts. Filling in for Nina (no explanation needed for her absence; just keep her gone) was another of the "Marie Claire" pod people, Zanna Roberts (what, Zoe Glassner is too pleasant for them?), and rounding out the panel was Heidi (sporting some of those weird Beyoncé robot fingers) and the Macy's bigwig.

Although their suit's skirt was in danger of becoming a belt with every step their model took, Althea and Logan's designs landed them right in the middle of the pack. They were allowed to leave the runway and relax backstage, where I'm sure Althea didn't try to hit on Logan at all.

Of the remaining teams, Carol Hannah/Shirin and Irina/Gordana were given the highest scores. When Heidi asked Irina how it was working with Gordana, Irina went into condescending wench mode and started pointing out all of Gordana's supposed weaknesses. It was even worse than when Nicolas threw Johnny under the bus a few episodes ago, because there was NO REASON for Irina to do it. They were safe! It's not like she had to fight for her spot.

Somehow, Irina was named the challenge winner and somehow, I managed to not throw up. Ugh. Seriously, Nicolas and Irina winning back to back? It's like some kind of reverse karma! But at least Nicolas deserved his victory last week. I can't say the same for Irina. Carol Hannah was totally robbed. The designs she created were so cute and perfectly consistent with the I.N.C. line (I know because I have a lot of their clothes), which was the whole point of the challenge. Irina's flowy halter dress that the judges loved so much was pretty, but it didn't look like an I.N.C. piece and the top was ridiculous. No woman bigger than an A cup could ever wear it.

The only upside to Irina's win was that she wasn't granted immunity. That's because her award was the opportunity to design a holiday dress for Macy's. How wonderful for her. Not wonderful for Macy's because, based on the quick screen flash of the dress, it was pretty bland. I think this broad's luck is going to run out pretty soon.

The bottom two teams were Louise/Nicolas and Christopher/Epperson. Between Louise's ruffled nightmares and Christopher's confoundedly disparate designs, it was hard to tell which team the judges hated more. Heidi wondered aloud what modern woman would ever wear Louise's dresses as Zanna tried to fight off a case of the dry heaves, and Michael Kors dismissed Christopher's pieces as a sloppy nightshirt and a "teal charmeuse disco pumpkin." Oh yeah, Kors is back! And Christopher celebrated his return by crying like a baby. If that baby's name were Andrae Gonzalo.

Epperson and the immune Nicolas were sent off to safety, leaving Christopher and Louise on the chopping block. Heidi warned them that it was possible that both of them would be eliminated, and as she spat out her acidic final assessments (which are getting harsher and harsher every week - eventually, she'll just start pelting the Bottom 2 with lit cigarettes), it seemed that she was prepared to deliver on that threat. But perhaps she was swayed by Christopher's river of blue tears and his previous good work, because Louise was the only one to be auf'd.

I was happy to see Christopher stay, but Louise's elimination only made last week's decision, when the judges unjustly saved her over Ra'Mon, all the more maddening.

Auf wiedersehen - see you next week!
