Hip-hop pioneer Flavor Flav is heading back to school for a new reality TV show.

The rapper quit his studies at the age of 16 to become a member of hip-hop super-group Public Enemy, but, 34 years later, he is determined to gain his high school diploma and he is documenting his efforts for cable channel VH1.

And the star, now a father of seven, hopes his own return to education will inspire youngsters to pursue their studies.

He tells The Hollywood Reporter, "I just want to show the world it's never too late to get your diploma, and show kids they should stay in school and not wait until you're old to get it. Everybody sees me as this big love mogul. Now I got a baby girl, I've been there and done that and now it's time for the next episode."

Flavor Flav is no stranger to reality TV - he took his search for a girlfriend nationwide when he launched his dating show Flavor of Love on VH1 in 2006 and he romanced Danish actress Brigitte Nielsen in The Surreal Life and spin-off show Strange Love.
