'Supernatural' Recap: 'Good God, Y'All'

SupernaturalThanks to his injuries in the season premiere of Supernatural, Bobby was stuck in a wheelchair. Castiel showed up and explained that he was now a rebel angel from hell and cut off from some of his powers, most importantly healing. After he carved the symbols into Sam and Dean's ribs, he was now forced to use a cell phone to track Dean down. Castiel told them that their plan to take on Lucifer was stupid, and he planned on finding God to let him send Lucifer back to hell. Castiel then took Dean's amulet, because it turned out to be able to warm up in the presence of God. The best line of the episode definitely was when Bobby told Castiel "When you find God, tell him to send legs."

Bobby got a call from Rufus who was in a town with a demon population problem, so Sam and Dean went to help. In town, they found fellow hunter Ellen hiding in a basement while Ellen's daughter Jo and Rufus were out among the demons. Ellen yelled at Dean for not keeping in touch, and later called Sam out on the fact that the boys were having problems. Sam found Jo and Rufus but they locked him up because a hallucination made his eyes look black. While they tried to exorcise Sam, Ellen and Dean talked to the locals. Dean realized that they were dealing with one of the four horsemen.

At the same time, the horseman, War, came to visit Sam and talked about how easy it was to get the townspeople to hallucinate demons and then turn on each other. He told Sam he could see into Sam's head, and all he saw was blood. After War made the other townspeople see Ellen and Dean as demons, the two went to Rufus and Jo to explain what was going on. Somehow, Sam and Dean managed to track War down, and while they couldn't kill him, they did manage to cut off his finger and get the ring he was using to make people hallucinate before he disappeared again.

In the end, Sam and Dean decided to split up, because Sam couldn't trust himself and Dean couldn't stop worrying long enough to focus on anything else. This episode felt almost like a filler episode, because we had an apocalypse problem, but stopping one of the horsemen didn't seem to get the brothers any closer to finding Lucifer. This episode felt like it was supposed to be about Sam and Dean splitting up, but they spent most of their time apart in the episode anyway. At least in the preview for the next episode, it looks like Sam finds himself dealing with a visit from his dead girlfriend Jessica and an accidental run in with Lucifer. Add in another and hopefully larger appearance by Cas, and the next episode should resume the relevant storyline.
