Shania Twain has thanked her fans for their support following her marriage split - and promised to give them "a gift" on her 44th birthday later this month.

The country singer ended her relationship with producer husband Robert 'Mutt' Lange in May 2008 when his affair with Twain's former assistant and friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, was exposed in the press.

The star returned to her home in Switzerland with the couple's eight-year-old son Eja D'Angelo and kept a low profile, but informed her fans in June that she was "managing well".

Now Twain has recorded a video, posted on her website, to thank her devotees and announce a surprise is in store for them on August 28.

In the footage, Twain says, "Hi everyone, Shania here. First to start off, thank you for all the beautiful birthday wishes for Eja's birthday. Secondly, if you haven't already seen on my website, for August 28 on my birthday, I will be giving you a small gift of thanks for all of your support over the last year. You've been really wonderful. Thank you so much."
