The church's high-profile members, including Tom Cruise and John Travolta, have long been advocates of Scientology's sobriety methods for drug abusers, and Cape Fear star Lewis is living proof the system works.
The star admits heavy marijuana use as a teenager led her to hard drugs and insists chemicals helped her feel like she was fitting in, telling Black Book magazine, "I've always been a strange bird (but) I wasn't fun on drugs."
Lewis reveals she quit at 22 thanks to the Church of Scientology's Narconon rehabilitation program.
She explains, "(It) uses technologies to help addicts get off drugs, like this brilliant sauna program that involves sweating out the toxins and vitamins. It's all about questioning why you took drugs in the first place and rehabilitating your self-worth." And Lewis insists she has been sober ever since - and is now "really anti-drug."
She adds, "The idea of taking a pill when you're unhappy or uneven to even out, to consume, to be perfect little robots - it all f#*king relates. I think it's a really radical thing to be present, to own your s*&t."
