The opening group dance is from Napoleon and Tabitha, and it's really weird and fun. It's also to The White Stripes, which is awesome. It is Nigel's 60th birthday, and he seems to be in a very good mood. He lets us know that they wanted to do a Michael Jackson tribute, but someone stopped them from using the music. Aw.
Let's get right to the badness. The first match up is Caitlin and Jason versus Brandon and Janette. This is hilarious because you know that the dancers know exactly who is in the bottom three, and everyone in the audience does too. Caitlin and Jason have been in the bottom many times now, and Brandon and Janette are the best dancers. Can we have a 'duh' here? So yes, surprise surprise, Caitlin and Jason are in the bottom. I'm 1/3!
Randi and Evan and Phillip and Jeanine are next. I start to whimper here, because I know that Phil is going to be in the bottom and probably kicked out this week. It'll be for the best; I can't be playing favorites either! Randi and Evan had the most lackluster dances this week, but they keep brushing by without a scar on them. Which is fine, because they're great ... don't mind me I'm bitter. Phillip and Jeanine are indeed in the bottom three.
And now at the end is Kupono and Kayla versus Melissa and Ade. This was a shocker because Melissa and Ade have been safe every single week. Kupono and Kayla have been in trouble many times, but they had that amazing Mia Michaels routine this week. That probably saved them without question. So Melissa the ballerina and Ade with his weird little hair comb are in the bottom three for the first time. Tyce warns Ade that he thinks he kept them down, and Nigel lets everyone know that the judges basically already have their mind up since they know the results. Nice. Way to take out all the tension!
There are no professional dancers this week but instead scenes from next season. Yawn. No next season, focus on this one! Eesh. Caitlin is up first for her solo and she honestly is not very impressive. We've seen better from her; heck, her audition was better than that. Jason also does a lot of flips and leg swings and he looks great. But considering these two are constantly in the bottom three, it seems like they've not gained any attention from the audience. Phillip does his usual awesome thing, but even he seems to know that he's doing his last here. There's constant water in his eyes, and it hurts to see. His partner Jeanine is utterly beautiful out there and has the best solo of the night. Melissa shows off her ballet training and has lovely lines, and Ade proves he totally is not pulling her back by doing a great hodgepodge of moves with one particularly great flip.
The musical guest is alright, and the song is definitely better for getting people dancing, but all that matters is who is leaving, okay? All these little distractions are just annoying. Get to the end! Alright, the judges are pulling no punches or pulling it out. They ask Caitlin to step forward and tell her she is not going to be on the show. Then they do the same to Phillip. I suppose it's nicer than making everyone on edge, but ... noooooooooooooooooo! As a runner-up kind of promise, however, Nigel says that Phillip and Caitlin will both be on the tour this year. That means they get the summer-long tour without having to dance further, so that's a pretty nice prize at the end of the day. It's still tragic, but ... it was bound to happen sooner or later. Phil was the most unique dancer on the stage, but he couldn't keep up with the trained dancers. C'est la vie.
