The 21 year old always dreamed of attending America's prestigious Stanford institution, but she was sidetracked by her elder brother Eric who persuaded her to try acting during her final years at high school.
Lively, who comes from a family of actors, admits she never wanted to go into the entertainment business in the first place.
She says, "(Becoming an actress) was the last thing I wanted to do. Because it was like the family business. It didn't seem like this grand, wonderful Hollywood thing - it was just what my family did. So I worked my whole life to go to Stanford."
Lively still hopes to complete her education one day - but fears her commitments to "Gossip Girl" means she will be too busy to even consider taking a break from acting.
She adds, "I wouldn't try to study anything to pursue a different profession. I would just want to become more educated. But it (her career) hasn't died down since the first season (of Gossip Girl). It's just got busier and crazier. And we shoot nine months out of the year. You don't have much time to yourself so there are lots of things I can't do."
