Slowly but surely "So You Think You Can Dance" is creeping toward the best part of the competition, the top 10, but we have a few more weeks to go. Who will be in that top ten is anyone's guess at this point, but I have some favorites. And so do the judges. This week the guest judge is Toni Basil, who is receiving the living legend of hip-hop award, and the question for the dancers is 'if you weren't a dancer, what would you be?' First up is Karla and Jonathan doing hip-hop. Karla would be a journalist, and Jonathan would want to be an acrobat for cirque du soleil. We've seen him do tumbling and flips before, so it seems fitting! The dance however is not really. It's supposed to be Bonnie and Clyde, but neither of them are very gangster. They're cute and they do okay, but it's just okay. Nigel says there was no excitement in the routine and little chemistry. Mary and Toni agree that they need to be better, aww, poor kids. Nigel thinks they'll be in the bottom three, but I wouldn't be surprised if the viewers vote against him just to be contrary.
Vitolio wants to be a lead singer in a band but he can't sing, and Asuka likes to make jewelry. This week they're doing a Mandy Moore jazz routine and she's usually great. Asuka breaks down into tears and Vitolio very gently comforts her. It's actually very sweet and genuine, although when it's caught on camera it might seem intentionally so. It was a good routine but for me it wasn't that great. They work together well and there's a lot of Asuka flipping around with her legs in a split. Nigel loved it in terms of performance, but Mary thought they weren't really together on it. Toni says don't let the technique get in the way of emotions. I like her, but I'm wondering why all the guest judges have to be like fortune cookies.
Melissa likes to teach pilates and Ade wants to be a sound engineer. They are doing the rumba. Personally I find the rumba very boring compared to its latin sisters and brothers, but the chemistry is clearly there. He has great hips surprisingly and gets into it. All three of the judges really like it, and Mary makes a few comments about the technical side that go right over our head. It's better than her screaming though.
Brandon would like to be a lighting and design person on set, and Janette is training to be a loan processor. That's actually the most interesting thing in the group, because it's the most unexpected and realistic. A loan processor? Janette just went up in my esteem. This is the pair that seems to sail through all their routines, and for once no one complains about how hard it is or that they can't get it together. They know they'll be good, and they are. Hip-hop with Janette being a rock star and Brandon as a hip-hopper. He really nails it actually, and the routine is hilarious and memorable. Nigel points out that the memorable part of the routine and he loved it. Mary woos for them, and I'm right there with her this week. Just like last week. This is the dream team!
Kupono wants to design costumes and Kayla wants to model. Kayla's answer was a little expected, but they show a few modeling pictures and she's not bad. Better than "America's Next Top Model" at least. They're doing the Viennese waltz which usually is very pretty but not much else. This stands true for their version too. It's pretty and elegant, and Mary makes a few comments on Kupono's mistakes, but she puts them on the hot tamale train because waltz dancers rarely get on it. It was nice, but not THAT nice. The hot tamale train is not a pity parade, Mary!

Caitlin is interested in broadcast journalism, and Jason wants to play soccer. He indicates he probably would be playing it at a college level so he might be very good at it. They were in the bottom three last week but survived with genuinely good solos. They are doing the Pasa Doble and are supposed to hate one another. The hate isn't really felt, but it's still a very strong dance and powerful. Jason holds himself high and it appears well danced. The judges agree, but Nigel warns Jason not to perform just to the audience, and Mary warned him not to lose his posture. Toni says the mistakes didn't get in the way of the performance, and that's a good thing. Agreed.

So tonight, Thursday, the results show comes in. Who is going to get axed? Well the bottom three will probably include Karla and Jonathan, and maybe Vitolio and Asuka again. Kupono and Karla weren't fantastic in their first dance together and they've already proven to be unpopular with the viewers, so we'll see. Tune in at 9 PM on FOX to find out!
