Debby BooneSinger Debby Boone has been left devastated after songwriter Joseph Brooks, who composed her famous 1977 hit You Light Up My Life, was charged with raping 11 women.

The 71-year-old producer was arrested in New York on Tuesday and charged with dozens of sex offenses against women who answered online adverts for acting roles. Brooks' assistant, Shawni Lucier, has been charged with criminal facilitation - prosecutors allege she helped arrange for women to visit Brooks at his New York apartment.

Now Boone, who won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1978, has spoken of her shock at the charges.

She tells RadarOnline.com, "I recorded You Light Up My Life as a pure expression of love. It has held a very special place in the hearts of so many people. Naturally, I am very concerned for all parties involved."

Brooks has been released on $500,000 bail.
