The outburst comes just days after Lohan reportedly 'tweeted' catty remarks about Justin Timberlake during a night out with the pop superstar in New York. The actress insists she never blogged about the encounter and the comments and photos posted online were those of a hacker. (Unlike this topless pic she posted to Twitter.)
Dina is convinced the high media interest in her daughter is provoking such incidents, and she is urging the press to give the actress some space.
She tells People.com, "Last month her personal cell (number) was posted online and now her phone messages have been hacked. This must stop. She is a 22-year-old girl who needs to live her life in peace. The tabloids need to leave her alone with all the lies and reporting with no proof."
Dina Lohan uses her latest press remarks to address reports her daughter was involved in a jewelry theft at her photoshoot with Elle magazine in London earlier this month.
Lohan is helping British police with their investigation into the missing gems. Elle magazine bosses have assured the authorities the Mean Girls star is not in possession of the on loan jewelry.
Her mother adds, "(The stories are) defamatory, false and unfair. Lindsay is one of some 20 people at the shoot who are being questioned by police and has never been called a suspect."
