Dave Matthews Band's "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" (RCA) debuts at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with 424,000 copies sold in its first week of release. The record is also No. 1 on the Digital Albums Chart, the Rock Albums Chart and the Alternative Albums Chart. "Big Whiskey" is the band's fifth consecutive studio album to enter The Billboard 200 in the top position - thus tying Dave Matthews Band with Metallica as the only two groups in chart history to have five consecutive studio albums debut at No. 1.

"Big Whiskey" has received stellar reviews, with critics observing the profound influence the passing of the band's saxophonist, LeRoi Moore, has had on the group. "His death catalyzed the latest sea change in the band's music," said The New York Times' Jon Pareles while Rolling Stone gave the album four stars, noting: "DMB honor a fallen band-mate with their most electric album yet." The Washington Post observed: "it's a lively, swampy, feral mix of sex and death and fatalism....Everybody seems rejuvenated." In a cover story, Billboard praised "Big Whiskey" as "its best album yet," a sentiment echoed by numerous publications, including the Chicago Tribune, which said: "...the band has never rocked quite so hard." "By turns sweet and sobering, grieving and grooving..."Big Whiskey" wields a sharper edge," said USA Today.

Lead single "Funny The Way It Is" appeared on Rolling Stone's Hot List and New York Magazine called the track "pure muscle." The song has been No. 1 at AAA radio for seven straight weeks and is in the Top 20 at the Alternative format. The video for "Funny The Way It Is" received its world premiere on AOL yesterday and it was just added at VH1. It will be featured as an "Artist Spotlight" in the June 20th episode of VH1's "Top 20 Countdown."

In late May, Dave Matthews Band kicked off an extensive summer tour with two concerts at Boston's historic Fenway Park. "The sold-out show...bore all the electricity and fervor of an extra-inning ballgame," said The Boston Globe. "Nearly three hours long, the concert was consistently - almost relentlessly - satisfying because the band was unerringly in synch with the songs and the audience's contagious enthusiasm."

In addition to playing the States and Canada, the group will tour Europe this summer, playing a mixture of headlining dates and festivals. Original members Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar) and Boyd Tinsley (violin) are joined on tour by Tim Reynolds on guitar, Rashawn Ross on trumpet and Jeff Coffin on saxophone. Named the top-drawing American band in the world by Billboard, Dave Matthews Band will headline the Austin City Limits Festival on October 3rd and will perform on the season premiere of "Austin City Limits," which will air the same day.
