So it's time for the very first elimination round on "So You Think You Can Dance!" Aw, the hardest part of all. It will be a fairly hard one since Wednesday was one of the best first weeks on the show, but there were at least two dances no one really liked. So you have an idea of who will be in the bottom. The elimination night is only one hour and the pairs are all brought up on stage. Each is told whether or not they're safe or dancing for their life. Three couples will have to then dance solos and the judges will decide who stays and who goes home.

The show starts with a hip hop routine with all twenty dancers which is fairly good and they sprinkle fairy dust all over the place. That doesn't really say gangster now does it? They also show a long clip of behind the scenes with all the dancers which is really rather funny and tells us a lot more about those dancers we know nothing about. Something which probably would have been better suited during the audition process, but whatever.
They first bring up Randi and Evan, Kayla and Max, and Phillip and Jeanine. All three couples got rave reviews on their separate dances, so it seemed odd that one of them as going to go home. Especially since Evan and Phillip are already fan favorites. But it as all a psych out, because all three couples are safe! Wahoo. My beloved Phillip is safe.
Next up is Caitlin and Jason who did Bollywood so you know they are so going to be safe, because it is so in right now. And of course they are. Ade and Melissa did that really happy dance about falling in love and everyone fell in love with them instead. It's between Ashley and Kupono with Wade's jazz routine and Tony and Paris who did the hip hop. Wade is usually a hit or a miss, but this time it is a hit and Tony and Paris go to the bottom. They deserve it; Tony's even supposed to be a hip hop dancer and he was very disappointing. They took a 'chance' on him this season, and it feels like a mistake.
Alright only a few couples left to go. Asuka and Vitolio did the 'meh' Broadway routine and are in the bottom six. Then it's between Janette and Brandon and Jonathan and Karla. Oh hell no, Brandon isn't going anywhere. They did that gorgeous fox trot and everyone feels bad for him since Mia is mean. And that wins it for them, huzzah! Jonathan and Karla had a nice cha-cha, but it wasn't enough to get the votes. Aw. Then it's solo time right after an amazing tango by professional dancers Miriam and Leonardo. I pity anyone on the show having to do a tango after that; obvious comparisons would be unkind.
Paris does not impress with her solo, and Tony just bops around on the floor doing some kicks but not much of anything else. Asuka has the trouble of being a ballroom dancer, so all she can do is look hot and hop. Vitolio goes without a shirt (that won't work on Nigel, mate), but he really has a better way of moving then I expected. Karla fights for her life by doing a lot of leg kicks and twirling, and it looks very nice but she has to watch just spinning on her leg all the time. Kind of one note. Jonathan shocks me by being ten times better than I expected. He does a little salsa and then some huge flips and spins. Where did that come from?!

It's time for the 'music' number with Sean Kingston (who?) and I expect Paris and Tony should go home. Neither of them were very impressive, and then no other pairings would have to be split up. Karla is the first of the girls sent to safety, but they definitely think Asuka has what it takes. Paris is out. I'm one for two here. And yes Tony is out as well, way to call it me! Truthfully they were the weakest links in their performances and solos so it was not surprising, but sometimes the judges give saving graces to people who do not deserve it.
Tune in next Wednesday at 8 PM EST on FOX to see the top nine couples dance for your votes!
