Woo, I wasn't aware that the "So You Think You Can Dance" auditions ended so quickly, but it is wonderful to have them over with. Surely one of the top twenty and ten and maybe even the winner will be memorable from the auditions, but you never know. They could probably get through all the cities a lot faster than this if they didn't want to milk it so badly. How do you know they are milking it? When they have Sex have a dance battle with an equally horrible dancer for entertainment. Just put us out of our misery now.
That being said, LA and Seattle are great in the way that the guest judges really lighten the mood. Adam Shankman ("Hairspray," "21 Again") is back to help them out in LA, and Mia Michaels for Seattle. Adam is without a doubt the kindest hearted man in the competition, and he brings that positivity to the rest of the judge panel. In LA they are joined by several dancers from last season, including winner Joshua, top girl Katee, and Comfort. This becomes important later on in the hour when a swing dancer charms them but just isn't good enough to go on. Adam says he would love to dance with her, so she invites him up on stage. What follows is the best ten minutes of the entire audition process. Adam is a beautiful dancer, and he then goes up to be 'judged' by the panel ... which consists of Joshua, Katee, Comfort and Lauren. It's absolutely adorable, with Adam acting all excited and nervous like a contestant, and then screaming his head off when he gets a ticket to Vegas. That right there reminded me why this is my favorite reality-competition show on television.

Some of the best dancers in LA for the first day include another tap dancer, Bianca, who got to Vegas but not into the top twenty. There has to be a tap dancer in the top twenty this year, there has to be! There are two asian ballroom dancers named Asuka and Ricky who are both wonderful. They are very tight dancers who get into the salsa, and though Asuka catches all their attention as very personable, Ricky keeps up with her well. They are both through to Vegas. There is also a wonderful young man named Nathan who you just want to hug, but unfortunately he's only 17 and can't be on the show ... yet. Nigel goes ahead and writes him a ticket to Vegas for next season, which starts in the fall, and he'll be old enough to attend. Nathan will not have to audition again, and that's a huge compliment right there. No surprise!
And here's the second day! Sammy the wrestler has brightly dyed hair and pops for everyone. He wow's them in choreography too and is going on. A sweet tempered girl, Amanda, has a father with MS and looks a lot like Chelsie from last year. Then a face from last year that we all remember, Philip that incredible popper. He doesn't even have to audition, because he got sick before Vegas and Nigel sends him straight threw. He stays to help his partner Arielle, and somehow their popper/contemporary dance is wonderfully charming. It could actually be on the show. She is sent through as well. The best thing about LA was how they focused on the good dancers and only showed a few bad dancer clips; thank you for that!
Next up is Seattle with Mia Michaels. Mia is a judge with her head in the clouds, but a genius in choreography. She always goads Mary on so for the second hour there is a lot of loud cackling laughter from the two of them. Seattle starts out very poorly, and the judges are infuriated. There were only four dancers that went on to Vegas, and there are very few dancers that stand out to the judges even on the second day. There are more, but overall Seattle was very disappointing. Hawaiian dancer Kuponohi'ipoi (wow) is quirky and strange, and that of course means he is going to Vegas. Because they love weird, just look at Mia and Sonya.
Then Sex is back, and for some reason they think it'd be hilarious to have him dance off with Ukranian raver Leonid. It's not clear whether these two realize how completely awful they are and that this is all to make fun of them. Nigel tells Sex he will allow him through to choreography and hope he gets a wake up call. The only way you will get him to stop, Nigel, is if you don't put him on television. Negative attention is what he wants. Stop featuring him and he will stop coming.
Yes, the audition process is over and now we won't have to deal with bad dancers anymore. Vegas has only the best, and instead next week will be all about breaking them into little pieces so only the strong survive. Bring it on!
