'Gossip Girl' Recap: 'The Goodbye Gossip Girl'

Gossip GirlGossip Girl may bring the drama, but it lacks in the follow-through. This year's season finale brought many almosts. We saw the beginning of a graduation ceremony, with the boys and girls of Constance and St. Jude's dressed in appropriately tacky (and clashing) green and blue polyester robes. It was interrupted with a blast from Gossip Girl blaring everyone's insecurities. I'm sure the gang graduated, but we didn't see it. We also didn't see Serena's (Blake Lively) hat; her tassel was tied to her hair. Classy.

Gossip Girl was almost going to leave everyone alone after they went off to college, until Serena was so upset by the final blast, which ruined graduation no less; she decided to wage war against the mysterious blabber. This backfired against Serena and turned her friends against her. At Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Serena's house, everyone gathered to try and figure out who Gossip Girl was, so to best know how to destroy her. Serena sent a tip to Gossip Girl, and the culprit was almost apprehended. Jonathan (Matt Doyle), Eric's (Connor Paolo) boyfriend. Conveniently, Eric's boyfriend had tapped into the Gossip Girl computer system, so he could know all the drama and possibly prevent some from leaking.

This almost helped Jenny (Taylor Momsen) become the new queen of Constance. With the seniors graduating, it left a spot open for queen of the minions. With Blair's (Leighton Meester) recent absence, Nelly (Yin Change), Penelope (Amanda Setton) and Isabel (Nicole Fiscella) decided they would take it upon themselves to crown the queen based on the best gossip they received. With Jonathan and Eric's help, Jenny obviously had the golden ticket. But, Jenny's plans were foiled by Gossip Girl, who spilled everyone's intimate secrets. In case viewers missed any of the other drama that went on this season, it was nicely recapped into who screwed who, who almost screwed who and who got paid. The blast told everyone to thank Serena for pushing her over the edge.

This blast not only interrupted Jenny's run for the throne, but also Blair's declaration of love for Chuck. She was determined to get him to admit his true feelings, whether it embarrassed her or not. She was determined not to graduate with Gossip Girl's proclamation that she's weak ringing true.

After this last blast at Nate's (Chace Crawford) graduation party, Serena decided to call Gossip Girl out and try and meet her. Gossip Girl, wise to Serena's ways, sent everyone else to meet Serena, to throw her off. After Gossip Girl informed everyone she'd be joining them in college, Jenny got her comeuppance and named queen from Blair. Since the minions are still technically scared of her, it worked. It looks like Jenny's desire to kill the hierarchy is also on the list of almosts for the evening.

A few things actually did happen though. Nate quit his internship at the Mayor's office and opted to go backpacking with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr). Serena also was headed off to Europe when she was informed that Carter (Sebastian Stan) had found her father. And speaking of fathers, Rufus (Matthew Settle) decided to finally ask Lily (Kelly Rutherford) to marry him.

There was also a not so coincidental meeting between Dan (Penn Badgley) and his half-brother, Scott (Chris Riggi), at a coffee shop near NYU. Of course, going back to the almost category, Dan didn't know it was him. However, Dan was also distracted by an interesting phone call from Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg). Apparently all the trouble with Poppy (Tamara Feldman) and Gabriel (Armie Hammer) was taken care of. Dan's college funds were reimbursed and Georgina found herself enrolling in college…as Blair's roommate.

And while these mini season cliffhangers will bring most back to see next fall, season two went out on a happy note with Chuck and Blair finally saying those three little words to each other….multiple times. Maybe things can change, until the fall. XOXO.
