BoughtHave you ever wondered about the world of high class, "prettied up" prostitution? How the girls live with themselves after a night of work and how the guys get away with it? Anna David explores this intriguing world in her new novel, Bought.

Emma Swanson is an aspiring journalist for Substance magazine in Los Angeles. She dreams of writing features for the magazine but gets paid to work on press lines. After seeing her ex-boyfriend at a party with a stunning, well kept woman and overhearing that she may have been hired to attend, Emma becomes intrigued and can't get that girl out of her head. She finally meets the girl - Jessica, a manipulative woman who openly sleeps with men for gifts, money and their fabulous lifestyles. Emma becomes a part of Jessica's world hoping that the time spent with her will be her big break into the world of journalism, but she finds herself in too deep.

Bought is accurate, intriguing and very well written. Anna is hilarious and her characters are very relatable. There were so many instances where you felt like you were sucked into the novel and living in Emma's life. You'll have a love/hate relationship with Jessica throughout the entire book and discover there may be a secret hiding behind the Fendi sunglasses of the well kept girls you see at Starbucks in the middle of the day.

Anna David is a successful, smart and beautiful writer who seems to have a handle on all aspects of the media. Along with being the sex and relationship expert on G4's Attack of the Show, she has appeared on countless television shows like Red Eye, The Today Show, Hannity & Colmes, Showbiz Tonight, MTV News, VH1 and E!. Her work has been featured in various outlets like Details, Maxim, Premiere, Parenting, People, Us Weekly, Razor, The New York Times, The LA Times, Vanity Fair, Playboy, Cosmo, Redbook. Self, Stuff, TV Guide, Movieline, Women's Health, Ocean Drive, Vegas, The Saturday Telegraph, Esquire UK, Teen Vogue, Variety, LA Confidential, Tatler (Hong Kong), Emmy, and msn.com. After reading Bought, Starpulse had a few questions for Anna regarding her book, her life and what's up next for her.

Was the idea for Bought based on the investigative piece on high-class Hollywood prostitution you wrote?
"Yes. Years ago, I wrote an article on high-class prostitution in Hollywood for Details. I had anticipated interviewing people over a few weeks and gathering some anecdotes, but I ended up spending about six months obsessively infiltrating that universe, getting to know the girls as well as the detectives, FBI informants and other denizens of the underworld. I was always disappointed that the article ended up being this 2000-word story that essentially just relayed how rich men got their rocks off and didn't get into the dynamics behind any of it. So, I decided to fictionalize what I'd learned and incorporate in aspects of some of the dysfunctional relationships I've been in to tell a story about how much we all sell ourselves to get what we want. Sometime after finishing the Details story, I was reading an article about a beautiful, well-educated, seemingly cultivated girl who brazenly admitted that she took money from men in exchange for sexual favors. I was amazed that someone like that could do and say those things without appearing to have an ounce of shame about it and honestly, I admired it. I walk around feeling shame about all kinds of things I shouldn't so for someone to own behavior that most of the world was going to judge just seemed so ballsy. I'm also slightly obsessed with the different versions of ourselves that we present to the world so I wanted to examine how someone like that - someone who, on the surface, had everything going for her and appeared confident - might be lying to herself and how her well-honed armor might crack."

Anna David Author of Bought

Is Emma based on anyone in particular?
"I started writing Bought the minute I had sold Party Girl so Emma was really just a solid attempt on my part to create a character that wasn't similar to my protagonist in Party Girl, Amelia. I wanted to make Emma a nice girl - one would have hung out with the people Amelia would have found hopelessly uncool in high school, someone who didn't do drugs or drink heavily or find herself involved in sexual dalliances she shouldn't be."

Did you know girls in Los Angeles like Jessica?
"She's bits of a lot of women I've interacted with over the years but I don't actually know anyone like her -- or, for that matter do I know women who vacillate somewhere between being hookers and kept women. She is, as the saying goes, a figment of my imagination."

Sony purchased the rights to Party Girl, is there a film on the way? Do you plan on also turning Bought into a film?
"Sony did purchase the movie rights but they were never able to make anything happen with it so the rights reverted back to me earlier this year. There's been some interest in Bought but no firm offers yet. Obviously I'd be thrilled if either or both were made into movies but I don't think that's something you can really shoot for any more than you can shoot for trying to win the lottery."

Who is your favorite Hollywood celebrity to gossip about?
"They're not Hollywood celebrities but these days, I simply can't hear enough about The Real Housewives of New York. Whether they're in court on assault charges, being left for mistresses, or publishing books that are either bestsellers or failures…I could seriously be on a 24-hour Real Housewives newsfeed and never get bored."

What's up next for you?
"I'm editing an anthology on reality television - about 15 different writers penning odes to their favorites. It will contain pieces on American Idol, The Bachelor, Project Runway - all of them (my own essay is on The Real World). I'm also working on a third novel, doing pieces for magazines and answering sex, dating and relationship questions on G4's Attack of the Show."

Anna's second novel, Bought hits the shelves on May 19th. Make sure to go out and get your copy!
