Green Day Rockers Green Day were so disappointed with the reception to their album Warning they considered splitting up.

The American Idiot hit-makers released five critically acclaimed discs in the 1990s before coming back with their sixth album in 2000. But Warning only reached number four on the U.S. Billboard chart and, despite being a hit with critics, wasn't received well by the buying public. And the band were so deflated after the release, they questioned whether they would continue making music, according to singer Billie Jo Armstrong.

He tells Britain's Daily Star, "Back then we had to question ourselves deeper than we ever had, investigate how we felt about each other, how we got on each other's nerves. We had to step it up about 10 notches. The interesting thing about that time was we were playing live shows better than we ever had before. But we never had a monumental record."
