Lindsay Lohan's mother Dina has rushed to defend her daughter Ali amid accusations the teenager parties with her superstar sister instead of attending school.

The Lohan family has attracted criticism from various media sources since 15-year-old aspiring singer Ali was photographed with her actress sibling in the weeks after her break-up from DJ Samantha Ronson.

The sisters were snapped frolicking in bikinis on the beaches of Hawaii last month before walking the red carpets of Los Angeles in designer outfits.

The flood of pictures hitting the tabloids and Internet blogs prompted several gossips to ask why the teen isn't in class.

But the girls' mom Dina is adamant Ali is continuing her education - with the help of a private tutor.

She tells the New York Daily News, "She (Ali) is home-schooled. I'm a firm believer in staying in school but, in the business, it's gotten difficult for Ali to be in school."

Dina explains education is now a "little tougher for Ali", who began to learn at home after leaving her school in Long Island, New York earlier this year.
