28 Weeks LaterA pandemic by definition: "An epidemic of infectious disease that spreads through populations across a large region; for instance a continent, or even worldwide." The Swine flu hasn't killed us all yet so until then let's take a look at a few of Hollywood's fictional pandemics.

The Andromeda Strain1.) The Andromeda Strain
Featured in: The Andromeda Strain
Plague: Alien bacteria
Source: Outer space
Effects: Solidifies blood, bores audience to death

When a space probe crashes over a small South Western town, the government grows concerned when the town's inhabitants suddenly drop dead. Fearing a catastrophic pandemic, a crack team of scientists painstakingly study the space-bug, analyzing how it enters the body, its size, its cell structure, the way it mutates and blah blah blah blah blah. The Andromeda Strain may be more lethal than swine flu, but it certainly isn't more exciting. If you're hoping to calm your H1N1 nerves then The Andromeda Strain should do the trick. By the time the film reaches its fifth or sixth pseudo-science experiment you'll become so numb from boredom that a case of pig flu might start to sound inviting.
