"
Medium" two-part episodes are usually more about questioning Allison's place in the world and her abilities than about the murderers and cases she helps solve. Such was the case in this two parter, 'The Devil Inside,' which officially concluded this week. This will be followed up by a two hour episode of the show next week, and then concluded with a third episode the week after. It looks like they're really pumping the show up and giving it serious meat. Then again this kind of continuous story line really feels better suited for a season finale; will that end up being nothing compared to these episodes?
In part 1 they introduced a very creepy character named Lucas Harvey who tried to kill Allison. He believes she is an abomination against God. He was killed by Scanlon while strangling her, but his ghost just won't quit. Instead, after death Lucas has more power than ever and can haunt the dreams of psychics everywhere, forcing them to see false things. Allison tries to work around his meddling with her visions, but he delights in messing with her and little Bridgette. Why she is the only one visited by him is unknown, but the kids all seem to have their own unique abilities. The scene with him telling Bridgette she was going to hell was genuinely horrifying since she's just a little girl. Well done making me nauseated, "Medium." Especially since he's running around without a shirt and being somehow doubly menacing for it.

Allison finally sees the right murderer, the one who is brutalizing all the girls after drugging them with a gas mask. Scanlon finds him shot in the head, and they close the case on him. However, Lucas allows her to see that he actually had a partner, one in Scotsdale, and they were working together to throw off the police. It was his partner who shot the guy, but she has no proof or any real information because Lucas puts a giant smiley face over the bad guy's face. That wacky troublesome ghost. This means that Allison cannot stop a new girl from being murdered, and it sets her into a serious depression.
This delights Lucas and he decides to go very Ghost Movie on her, appearing in all sorts of random places in the house and advising her on ways to kill herself. This was right after she asked Joe why God had not intervened yet, so of course it had to happen eventually. In the form of all the murdered women that Allison could've saved had Lucas not stopped her. Despite his assertion that they were meant to die, the ghosts would have none of that. They chase him outside and Allison wakes up knowing he is gone for good. Yay! No more psychotic shirtless Casper!
On the family front, the youngest daughter Marie keeps cutting dolls out of Joe's paper. Each time she does, she names them, and Joe figures out she is actually naming stocks that end up winning big money. He wants to get enough money to buy back his company from Terry, but Allison halts him and Marie seems to stop having the visions. Allison might not want her daughter's abilities to be used for personal gain, but you can't hold her back forever.
Next week begins a three hour "Medium" event (two episodes back to back next week, one the Monday after), so get ready for some serious drama. Allison may find the golden ticket to success, but does it come at a serious price? And next week's episode will begin early, at 9 PM EST, so don't miss it.
"Medium" is on NBC Monday nights at 10 PM EST.
