'Supernatural' Recap: 'Jump the Shark'
A woman runs down the hall of a house in tonight's teaser, and since this is Supernatural, it's only a matter of minutes before she has to die. Just as something pulls her under the bed, she knocks over a table with a picture of John Winchester on it.
Sam is brushing his teeth when a crabby Dean wakes up after sleeping all night in the car. One of their cell phones starts to ring and they realize its John's. A guy named Adam Milligan asks for John Winchester and Dean bluntly tells him he died. When Dean asks who the guy is, he tells him that he's John's son.

Sam and Dean go to a diner to meet Adam and Dean's convinced it's a trap. He brings a gun and even switches out the water for holy water before Adam arrives. Sam is less skeptical after he sees missing pages from their dad's journal, and an entry that places John in Minnesota about nine months before Adam was born.
Adam arrives and drinks the holy water without any trouble. He explains John met his mother after arriving as a patient in the hospital but his mom never talked about him. Adam's mom, the woman in the teaser is missing and Adam called John because that's the only family he has. He starts talking about meeting John at twelve and John teaching him to drive, and Dean cuts him off.
Adam has pictures of himself with John, and Dean's a little mad when he sees John took Adam to a baseball game for his fourteenth birthday. Sam explains that in 1990 there were several grave robberies, and that the same robberies recently started up again. Adam shows Sam and Dean the house, and Dean notices marks on the floor. After moving the bed they find a vent under it. Sam and Dean play paper scissors rock, with Dean putting out scissors and losing, a shout out to the season two episode "Heart." Dean sees some blood and hair, and they leave Adam to call the police.
Adam shows up at the motel and demands answers, and Dean wants to lie but Sam tells him the truth. Adam doesn't question their story and Dean storms off. Dean goes to look at the grave robberies and talks to the widow of one of the missing persons. She tells him her husband worked on the grave robbery case in 1990 and would only ever say they called in a specialist for help. Sam is dodging specifics about how John died when the lights go out in the room. Adam and Sam head outside and something starts to pull Sam under the car but Dean shows up and manages to get him to safety.
After realizing that the thing wants revenge on the people connected to what happened when John was around, Sam wants to train Adam and Dean wants to drop him off at Bobby's. Adam sides with Sam and Sam gives him a quick run through in hunter basics.
Dean explains that Adam still has a chance for a life and calls out Sam for giving Adam the same speech John once gave out hunting being life. Dean goes investigating alone again. Meanwhile, Adam and Sam board up all the entries except for one vent. Adam's mom appears and Sam points a gun on her. At the same time, Dean gets trapped underground where he finds the bodies of Adam and his mother. Sam tells Adam that's not his mother, and Adam agrees before knocking Sam out.
Sam wakes up tied to a table and realizes none of Dean's tests worked because they're ghouls. It turns out the ghouls are the children of the one John killed. The whole thing was a trap to get John there. The ghouls start feeding on Sam's blood, putting it in bowls to save for later. Sam struggles and only manages to make himself bleed faster. After he thought he could take on Lilith in the episode before, it looks like two ghouls might take him out.
Dean gets loose and comes to Sam's rescue, quickly killing the girl ghoul and then beating to death the one that looked like Adam. Dean then unties Sam.
The brothers give Adam a hunter's death by fire, because according to Dean he died a hunter's death. Dean tells Sam he gets why Sam and their father fought so much. He tells him they're practically the same person. Sam agrees and it's not exactly clear whether it's a compliment or an insult, with Dean's face leading towards the latter. Let the Sam vs. Dean tension building continue.
